Swedish Guitar and Lute Festival 2016 |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
Swedish Guitar and Lute Society’s summer course, which will take place for the 49th time this year, has changed its name from Little Guitar Academy to the Swedish Guitar and Lute Festival in order to reflect the way that the course has gradually evolved since it began in 1968. As far as we know, it is the world’s longest running annual guitar course/festival. This year’s International Masterclass teacher is Stanley Yates. The SGLS festival is a guitar and lute course for people of all ages and all levels of ability. There, one can meet guitar teachers who seek further training, conservatory students, and professional musicians, as well as amateur musicians of all ages, from those who have just started to play to those at advanced levels. The course is an excellent opportunity to meet and exchange experiences with as many as a hundred other guitarists and lutenists. Each participant composes his or her own schedule with the lessons and ensembles of his or her choice. There is a survey and description of the various courses offered the first evening. Every participant has the possibility of at least one individual lesson each day, and there is a concert every evening. A masterclass, seminars and lectures will also take place during the week. The lute course is open to lute and baroque guitar players of all levels. There are good opportunities to participate in an ensemble. We hope that many people will also participate in the Guitar Orchestra. There is also a course for beginners of all ages. “Fingerstyle” guitarist Emil Ernebro will visit during the week and will give a course in “fingerstyle” guitar. There will also be a singer/songwriter course offered by Lucas Brar. See the menu on the left for more information about the various possibilities. You will also have the possibility of meeting visiting guitar builders and of trying new instruments, as well as the chance to brouse through CD’s and music exhibited by visiting publishers. The teachers are all experienced teachers and skilled musicians. We will be collaborating this year with Ingesunds Folkhögskola near Arvika, which means that we can offer superb teaching facilities, an outstanding concert hall, and good room and board. All are warmly welcomed regardless of age and playing ability. |
